A List of Things I’m Thankful For as a Marketer

 On a personal level, I’m thankful for a lot this year – my headful of thick hair, Netflix, that warm basket of bread that comes before your meal, Nutella, 3 day weekends, my comfy shoes that don’t cramp my flat feet, Ina Garten, wine and single-serve microwavable popcorn bags. But below is a list is about the things I’m most thankful for as a marketer.

A Smarter Google: This past year Google has graduated with a degree in “Kicking SEO’s A$$.” Contrary to what any SEO company will tell you – SEO is becoming less important when building a website. This is because Google/Bing/Yahoo are learning what you want to see on page 1 based on your past searches, not what other websites say you want to see. No more stuffing keywords onto landing pages or site content and no more making things fit where they simply don’t belong - all for SEO purposes. It’s a beautiful time to be a marketer.

Selling on Social: Different social media sites have enabled advertisers to sell directly on their platforms. Facebook and Pinterest, in particular, have introduced “Buy Now” features. This is a fantastic opportunity to reach your target audience and increase conversions.

Videos Dominate Social: Social media receives 10 billion video views a day. This fact alone proves how much online users love watching videos. Plenty of studies also show videos have higher engagement rates compared to other postings. I strongly recommend adding fun videos to your social campaigns.  

Dark Traffic Becomes Not So Dark: If you’re using Google Analytics, then you know how frustrating it is to try to decipher dark traffic—the kind of traffic you can’t track. Thankfully, dark traffic has gradually come to light over the past few months. I predict 2017 will be the death of dark traffic.

To close this out, I’m going to say Happy Thanksgiving from everyone at Custom Business Services and continue my personal list of things I’m thankful for in 2016: crab rangoon, duct tape, Chuck Norris (the only thing stronger than duct tape), Forever Stamps, the 5 second rule, comic book movies and hot chai lattes.
